Speech Therapists work to prevent, assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, social- and cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. They help children with special needs to;
• articulate sounds and/or words communicate both verbally (V) and non-verbally (NV)
• listen to and comprehend V and NV communication
• know the appropriate time and place to communicate something
• converse and communicate in ways to develop relationships
• make eye contact
• turn-take
• understand emotions
• problem solve
• regulate themselves behaviourally and emotionally
• understand basic concepts and develop literacy skills.
